College Director Offering Guidance to SME’s in the West Midlands looking to improve performance

A director of one of the region’s leading vocational colleges will be discussing the skills gap in the West Midlands, and what can be done about it.

Rebecca Waterfield, Director of Business Development at South & City College Birmingham will be one of the guest speakers at a free-to-attend event taking place in the city this month.

Open to all SME’s in the West Midlands, the event will give valuable insight to businesses who want to improve their potential and thrive despite the current economic climate.

The free seminar, called ‘Productivity or Bust: Why productivity is vital for SMEs to survive’ will include networking opportunities before and after, along with refreshments.

Rebecca said she was excited to be hosting and speaking at the first of its kind event, which will also be offering networking opportunities and insight from some key figures and business improvement experts in the region.

“It will be a morning that we hope will be invaluable to those who attend and we will be covering subjects which will be highlighting how upskilling in all parts of the business is the key to surviving the coming months and years of economic uncertainty,” she said.

“I will be speaking not just about skills and recruitment, but also interventions and funds that are available to people wanting to better themselves. I will also be covering what we are hearing from other businesses about what gaps they are seeing in the jobs market, and giving tips on future challenges that we are facing, and what we can do from a local and regional level,” she added.

Also confirmed as a speaker will be Darren Jones, Environment and Sustainability Director of award winning Sonihull Ultrasonic.will be covering the subject from a different angle, and discussing how an individual’s productivity can have an impact on a business’ efficiency and regional growth.

Other speakers also include Steve Boam, CEO of Develop Consulting and Fiona Latter from West Midlands Combined Authority.

The event, which will be MC’ed by award-winning event host and BBC broadcaster Dave Sharpe is being held at South & City College’s Longbridge Campus on Wednesday, May 17 and will run between 8.30am and 11.30am.

Networking opportunities will be available at the start and end of the session.
